At a council held at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden on Monday, March 12, 2018, attended by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, the King announced the names of the newborn daughter of Princess Madeleine: Her Royal Highness Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice, Duchess of Blekinge.
Josephine is a name brought into the Swedish Royal Family when Joséphine of Leuchtenberg, a granddaughter of Empress Joséphine (Napoleon Bonaparte‘s first wife) married King Oscar I in 1823. It is one of the names of the baby’s mother Princess Madeleine (Madeleine Thérèse Amelie Josephine). Alice is most likely for the baby’s great-grandmother Alice Soares de Toledo, the mother of Queen Silvia. It is also one of the names of the baby’s aunt Crown Princess Victoria (Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée).
